BCMEA is proud to announce the 2023 Scholarship Awardees! Every single one of our scholarship candidates displayed exceptional qualities. We take immense pride in honoring those individuals who exhibited outstanding academic and extracurricular accomplishments. Moreover, each candidate showcased unwavering personal integrity and deeply-held values. Let's introduce you to our exceptional candidates, all of whom exemplified passion, curiosity, and a strong dedication to making a positive difference in our community.  â€‹

Crystal Kehle

Crystal plans attend CSU Chico to pursue a BA in Liberal Studies to become an Elementary Teacher, Multi-Subject in Fall 2023. She graduated with her AA in Liberal Studies in Spring of 2023. Currently, Crystal has been employed at the Butte County Department of Employment and Social Services since 2012, serving as a Supervisor for Employment and Eligibility. In her spare time, she is actively involved in volunteering at local High Schools and is dedicated to contributing to the betterment of our community.

John Goodman

"Johnny" is a recent graduate from Chico Senior High School who maintained a 4.0 GPA during his high school career. Johnny plans to attend UC Santa Barbara to pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering at UC Santa Barbara. He has a passion for exploring and utilizing the Earth's resources to enhance human well-being.

Johnny is the son of BCMEA member, Karma Kamman in Behavioral Health.

Mary Castaneda

Mary aspires to be a nurse and values qualities like communication, empathy, and problem-solving. Having witnessed a nurse's compassion during her uncle's difficult time, and her grandmother's challenging decision-making, she learned important life lessons. She plans to carry these leadership qualities into her future career. Currently, she is pursuing her education through Butte College. In her free time, she enjoys engaging in hobbies like reading, painting, and volunteering at local healthcare centers.

Mary is the daughter of BCMEA member Robert Castaneda in Public Works.

Hayden Hinkle

Hayden is currently a Business Administration major at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) with a keen interest in financial planning. He maintains a 3.48 GPA and is participating in a summer internship to accelerate his knowledge. In addition to his academic pursuits, he actively participates in personal growth activities such as golf, gaming, and weightlifting.

Hayden is the son of BCMEA member Michele Hinkle in Public Health.

Chloe Chenoweth

Chloey graduated from Oroville High School 2023. She is currently enrolled at Mendocino College, pursuing an Associate of Science Degree in Criminal Justice while playing softball. Her goal is to transfer to a four-year university to obtain her Bachelor of Science in the same field. Despite facing challenges like Covid-19 and health issues, Chloey excelled in academics and athletics, maintaining a 4.0 GPA and receiving Student Athlete Awards for her dedication and leadership on the softball team.

Chloe is the daughter of BCMEA member Amanda Partain in Public Works.
